AFTER months of preparation, Rugby Theatre’s much anticipated production of Romeo and Juliet opens this Saturday.

The modern day adaptation is set against the gritty backdrop of a run-down English town, where the economic downturn and a lack of jobs has left tensions running high between British and Polish communities.

This unique adaptation promises to be an energetic, modern, yet faithful reworking of Shakespeare’s tragedy quite unlike any other as a Polish man falls in love with an English woman. In a production that has gained international interest from the Royal Shakespeare Company, BBC Radio 4, and Polish national radio, this play promises to present Shakespeare’s classic tale of love in a brand new light, making use of both Polish and English actors.

n The play opens Saturday May 12 and runs until Sat May 19 (excluding Sunday night) at 7.30pm. Tickets will be available on the door, but the theatre advises booking early. School parties are welcome and students get cheaper tickets. Tickets can be booked at Rugby Theatre Box Office on (01788) 541234.
