RUGBY Mayor Kathryn Lawrence took part in 90th anniversary celebrations at the Rotary Club of Rugby.

The inaugural meeting of the first rotary club in Rugby took place at the Grand Hotel in Albert Street in 1922.

To celebrate, a pig roast was held recently at the Crescent School in Rugby.

Messages of congratulations were received from the Rotary International president and president elect together with a commemoration certificate. Cllr Lawrence said the club gave a wonderful service work to the community, locally and internationally.

She recognised that Rugby would have been a much poorer place if Rotary had not existed in the town and hoped that it would continue to make a difference far beyond its 90 years.

Rugby’s President Rob Brock was proud to present a special
award to Flick Furber in recognition of her many years of her tireless service to Rotary ideals, especially to the Rotary Disabled Sports Day and for her help with other Rotary events.
