Rugby in Bloom: the winners

THE results are in for the most hotly anticipated green fingered competition in the borough.

For the 22nd year Rugbeians have entered the annual Rugby in Bloom competition - and this year they have entered in great numbers.

And now, after judges from the Rugby Gardeners Guild trawled the length and breadth of the borough casting their gaze over gardens big and small, they have made their decisions.

The awards ceremony - at which the winners and runners up will received their awards - was held at Blooms Garden Centre on Wednesday, hosting guest speaker Bob Flowerdew from the BBC.

Cllr Dr Mark Williams, portfolio holder for the Sustainable Environment, said: “Rugby in Bloom just gets better every year.

“It’s really encouraging to see the whole community - including businesses who both sponsor and enter the event - supporting the competition year after year.

“It was a great pleasure to meet the prizewinners and see their pride when they received their awards, especially Miss Lucy Horner who received the Children’s Award for the contribution she makes to her school gardening club. And it’s always pleasing to see new entrants to the competition, with Mr Thompson winning that category this year.”
