A 31-year-old man from Rugby has been arrested following an incident in Nuneaton earlier this month.

He is accused of criminal damage, assaulting police, escaping from lawful custody and vehicle interference of a motor vehicle.

A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said: “At around 11.30am on Saturday, October 1 an officer was patrolling along Black-A-Tree Road when a member of the public flagged her down to report that two men had smashed a window at a property and tried to steal a car.

“While carrying out arrests in Byford Street in connection to the report the officer was assaulted, suffering injuries to her arm and hand.

“Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time that may have witnessed the incident and are asking for witnesses to contact them by dialling 101, quoting incident number 147 of October 1.”

A 22-year-old man from Nuneaton has also been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, assaulting police and vehicle interference of a motor vehicle.

Both men have been bailed and are due to return to the police station in November.
