A 43-year-old man from Rugby has been arrested in connection with a murder after a man was found with gunshot wounds to his chest.
Victim John Palmer, 65, a convicted fraudster, was discovered by his family at an address in Sandpit Lane, Essex, on Wednesday June 24.
A post mortem examination determined the cause of his death to be gunshot wounds to the chest.
A Rugby man was arrested on Wednesday August 5 on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
He has been bailed pending further enquiries to September 23.
Mr Palmer, known as ‘Goldfinger’, was jailed for eight years for masterminding a timeshare fraud targeting people in the UK.
DCI Simon Werrett, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a positive development in the enquiry but we are continuing to appeal for witnesses to any suspicious activity in the area to come forward or for anyone who has information which could help us to get in touch.”
Mr Palmer’s family said they have been left ‘devastated’ by his death.
A spokesman for the family said: “We are still in shock and trying to come to terms with the enormity of John’s death. To lose someone you care about and who is a key part of your family so suddenly is traumatic and completely overwhelming. If anyone knows anything about John’s death which could help police please get in touch with them so we can find some answers.”
