The Mayor of Rugby, Cllr Sally Bragg, officially opened charity New Directions’ new home last week.

Poppy Place is the charity’s home for people with learning and physically disabilities and will help to provide 24-hour support.

The mayor and guests were taken on a tour of the new facilities, which have been adapted to support the needs of the seven residents. The home received a generous donation from Rugby Group Benevolent Fund which has gone towards solar panels and specialist track hoists which complement the adjustable kitchen units and worktops.

CEO Doreen Woodward said: “P”Poppy Place is our new pride and joy. The accessibility of this home is transforming the lives of its residents and staff, having a positive impact on their health and wellbeing.

“Our thanks go to The Mayor for officially opening Poppy Place which we are confident is one of the leaders locally of specialist support with help of impressive local fundraising efforts.

“We are now looking forward to building upon this amazing start and our new developments coming in 2017.”
