Rugby’s MP Mark Pawsey will attend the funeral of Baroness Thatcher tomorrow (Wednesday).
Mr Pawsey said he is ‘very honoured’ to be attending former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s funeral at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Mr Pawsey spoke in a special Parliament session last week where MPs paid tribute to Baroness Thatcher who died on April 8.
He said: “I am very honoured to attend the funeral of Baroness Thatcher. I will be there as a representative of many Rugby residents who want to pay their respects to our former Prime Minister. I was delighted to be able to pay my own respects to Baroness Thatcher in the special tribute session of Parliament last week.”
Mr Pawsey continued: “In the session I was also very happy to draw my fellow MPs attention to the Rugby Advertiser’s news story of the day that Baroness Thatcher visited Rugby in 1980. I told my colleagues that the article tells how many of those present were ‘star-struck’.
“Baroness Thatcher was a giant of national politics. She was a conviction politician who, as the Prime Minister has recently said, saved this nation from the hole we were facing. That is why she was so admired by Rugby residents and I am glad I was able to pay my own tribute to the Iron Lady on the floor of the House of Commons she so famously graced for so long.”
