DRINKERS causing a disturbance in the town centre were issued with Section 27 notices by police last weekened.

Section 27 provides the police with a power to issue a direction to an individual to leave a area to minimise the risk of alcohol related crime or disorder arising and/or taking place.

The Police can issue this notice to individuals over the age of 16. This notice prevents the individual from returning to the area for 48 hours.

If the individual fails to comply with the direction, the individual will be guilty of an offence and would be liable on summary conviction to a fine of £2,500.
