Bubbly was flowing and the smell of tasty sizzling food filled the air in Rugby last Thursday night for the debut of a fabulous monthly street party.

Rugby’s first ever 1st Thursday was a great success, with around 25 of the county’s top acts entertaining for the ‘Alive After Five’ event.

Shops opened their doors to late night shoppers, offering food, drink, demonstrations and promotions.

Co-organiser Simon Ainley, who owns Garden Gate Flowers in Regent Street, said: “All I can say is wow, what a night!

“I’m really pleased that so many people accepted our invitation to come into the town centre and help celebrate what is great about Rugby.”

Robert Low, who brought all of the musicians together, said: “The event went like clockwork and everyone seemed to really enjoy it.”

Adam McHenry, director and head of sales at Cadman Homes in Rugby, said the town was ‘buzzing’.

He added: “The town was nice and busy and it was great to see people about.”
