The search is on to find Rugby’s Young Photographer of the Year, with this year’s theme being ‘Light up your Community’.
It is being run by the three Rotary clubs in Rugby, supported by the Rugby Advertiser.
The Rotary Young Photographer Competition is a well established and successful competition organised by Rotary International in Britain and Ireland.
Winners of each age category will win £25 and a 10x4 canvas print of the picture, kindly donated by Max Spielmann in Rugby.
There are three age categories in the competition: junior for seven to ten-year-olds, intermediate for 11 to 13-year-olds and senior for 14 to 17-year-olds.
This competition aims to encourage young people to experiment with photography, use digital or traditional methods of photography, show interpretation of their chosen topic and express their ideas through the medium of photography.
Competitors must include their date of birth on the application form.
The are three stages of the competition. The first is a local heat organised by local Rotary clubs.
Age group winners of local heats are then entered into a district competition.
Local Rotary clubs can be found by visiting website www.ribi.org
The task is to produce a portfolio of three photographs based upon the theme, Light up the Community in colour or black and white on photographic paper.
Prints are to be submitted separately.
Each print, including any mount should be no larger than A4 size.
Winners should also describe in one sentence the inspiration behind their entry.
Assistant governor Terri Morgan, from Rotary Club Of Rotary Saturday Breakfast, said: “We should all be responsible for helping our communities. There are community projects, fundraising, displays, activities and events which raise money or offer help to local communities.
“Entries can reflect how the community is lit up in any way.”
Judges include the Rotarians, local freelance photographer Mike Baker and Paul Richards from Max Spielmann in Rugby.
The closing date for entries is January 30.
