YOUNG school council members have visited the Mayor of Rugby as part of Local Democracy Week.

Pupils from the Revel primary school in Monks Kirby, Our Lady’s Catholic primary school in Princethorpe, Binley Woods primary school and Provost Williams primary school in Ryton were all invited to the Town Hall in Rugby on Wednesday morning. Other schools also attended on Tuesday and more are due today (Thursday).

Cllr Kathryn Lawrence, Mayor of Rugby, said: “It went really well. They came into the council chamber and we talked about Rugby Borough Council and about the roles of councillors and the mayor. They soon realised that what they do at school council is the same thing but just on a smaller scale.”

The pupils also wrote down what they did in Rugby during 2012 which will be stored in the town’s museum.

Cllr Lawrence said: “In years to come people can look back to 2012 and see what was going on.”
