Rugby to be turned into scene of a thriller

Rugby town centre will be turned into a real-life, real-time scene of a mystery on Saturday, March 18.

Game makers Casefile, will be joining forces with Rugby First to create an immersive gaming experience for would-be detectives. Using Rugby’s streets as a literally life-size game board, Casefile: The Mystery of the Star-Eaters, invites players to take on the role of ‘consulting detective’ in a thriller that will test their wits to the very limits.

Following clues, questioning witnesses and solving puzzles, amateur sleuths will be taken on a journey of discovery around Rugby’s landmarks as they investigate a mystery.

Devised by graphic designer, Stephen Blackwell, the game is played in teams of two to six and takes approximately two to three hours to complete. The event will be run continuously throughout the day so players can stop and start whenever they choose.

Mr Blackwell said: “The aim was to genuinely replicate the feel of a real investigation and the best way to do that was to make the most of real locations. Working with a number of businesses throughout the town centre, we’ve been able to create an excitingly immersive experience for our players.

Neill Wilcock, director of Shadow Games, who will be supporting and hosting the event, said: “It will be great to see Rugby come alive with families and teams of super sleuths cracking clues to solve the mystery.”

The game starts at Shadow Games, 66 Church Street, runs from 10am, and the final detectives go out at 1pm.

It takes 2-3 hours to complete and a maximum of 500 adult players to avoid crowding.

The game is not ‘linear’ so the players will visit locations in a different order, avoiding congestion.

There is no time limit, although the final location closes at 4pm and players are encouraged to spend the day, grab a coffee or lunch and explore the town centre.
