Rugby Town have released a message this morning saying central defender Elliot Palmer is making good progress after a horror injury on Saturday.

Town were at Bedworth United for an FA Trophy Preliminary Round tie when the accident happened.

A club official told the BBC Palmer was in collision with his own keeper as they both went for a 50/50 ball a Bedworth striker was also chasing.

After receiving treatment on the pitch, he was taken to hospital and the club said he spent the night in critical care with three broken ribs and bleeding to the kidney and liver.

Messages of support flooded in from both clubs, fellow players and fans from other clubs, including many from previous club Coventry United.

This morning the club issued an update on its official Twitter feed, saying: ‘Elliot has been in good spirits and recovering well - hoping to move out of the critical care unit today’.
