BECOME Rugby’s young writer of the year or the town’s young photographer of the year for 2013 as part of a new competition.

The three Rotary Clubs of Rugby, in conjunction with the Rugby Advertiser, are this week launching two new competitions - Young Writer of the Year and Young Photographer of the Year.

The theme for both competitions is ‘peace’.

Chris Lillington, editor of the Rugby Advertiser, said: “We are delighted to be running these competitions with the Rotary Clubs of Rugby. It’s a great opportunity for all the young people in Rugby to get involved and show us what they can do. Personally I’m really looking forward to reading all the entries for the young writer competition, while our photographer Mike Baker will casting his eye over all the photo entries.”

Mr Lillington will be joined by two others for the young writer competition. There are three age groups (7-10, 11-3, 14-17) and the winner of each will receive a £25 book token. Writers should not exceed one side of A4.

Entries should be sent to the Rugby Advertiser, 2 Albert Street, Rugby by February 25.

Entry forms can be found at www.ribi.org/youth/competitions.

YOUNG Rugby photographers are being given the opportunity to showcase their skills.

The Young Photographer Competition, organised by the three Rotary Clubs of Rugby in conjunction with the Advertiser, is a chance for people to express their interpretation of the theme through a photograph.

The theme for the 2013 competition is ‘peace’.

Entrants need to submit a portfolio of three different prints - either in colour or black and white - on photographic quality paper no larger than A4 size, plus a digital copy on disc.

In addition each entrant must provide, in no more than 50 words, a description of the inspiration for their photographs and how they reflect the theme.

There are three different age groups (7-10, 11-13, 14-17) and all entries will be judged by a panel of judges, chaired by Rugby Advertiser chief photographer Mike Baker.

Each category winner will get £25 cash and all entrants will receive a certificate.

The closing date for entries is February 25. Send your entries to Rotary Young Photographer, Rugby Advertiser, 2 Albert Street, Rugby.
