It’s nearly time to say goodbye to Salters in Rugby’s High Street - but the name will live on in a new home in Albert Street in November.

There was great sadness when the Advertiser broke the news in July that the legendary menswear shop was going to close after 131 years.

The latest representative of the family business Andrew Salter said at the time he had decided to get out while the going was still good.

He set the closing date for October 8 but said he hoped to sell the hire business.

And as his deadline gets ever closer, one of the team, Penny Appleyard, has decided to take on that hire business and will be keeping the Salters name when it opens in a new location in Albert Street, in the left-hand side of what used to be Vanilla.

She is teaming up with Amanda Proffitt in the new venture and said: “I am excited and looking forward to carrying on the Salters name and providing wedding, evening and prom suits for Rugby and the wider area.”

The shop in High Street has been sold but up until the current business closes on Saturday its big sale continues with further reductions.
