Shoplifter grabbed by woman

A BRAVE woman was assaulted when she grabbed and held on to a shoplifter as he tried to leave a Bilton shop without paying.

Police have issued CCTV images of a man who was in the Cooperative store on The Green in Bilton at the time a woman was assaulted by a shoplifter at 4.20pm on Tuesday, March 1, in the hope that someone will recognise him.

A police spokesman said: “Officers would like to talk to the man as he was in the store at the time the incident occurred and may be able to help them progress their enquiries.”

The woman was assaulted when she grabbed the shoplifter as he tried to leave the shop without paying. She hung on to him whilst he repeatedly assaulted her until he pushed her away and ran off towards Longrood Road where police think he may have been picked up by a car. The woman said she didn’t want any medical attention.

The basket of items was fonnd outside the door of the Co-op.
