WHAT IS IT? MOBO-nominated jazz singer Zara McFarlane.

WHERE AND WHEN IS IT? Lawrence Sheriff School in Clifton Road on Saturday November 24. Doors open at 7pm.

WHAT DO THEY SAY ABOUT IT?

Zara is versatile singer who appeals to fans of jazz and reggae alike. She believes that the timing of her forthcoming concert in Rugby will provide the best possible preview of her new album, due out in early 2013.

The 29-year-old said: “I’m really looking forward to performing in Rugby, where my band and I will feature plenty of songs from my debut CD ‘Until Tomorrow’.

“But we find ourselves ahead of schedule with our new material, which means that some tracks from the new album will be heard live on November 24 for the very first time. I hope the people in Rugby will like them.”

Zara was nominated in the Best Jazz Act category at the MOBO Awards, held earlier this month. Zara came to the attention of critics with her acclaimed rendition of Junior Murvin’s reggae classic Police And Thieves, also recorded by The Clash. The song’s accompanying video has so far been viewed more than 18,000 times on YouTube.
