A combination of fundraising and donations have helped 1st Stretton-on-Dunsmore Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer Groups renovate the village’s disused cricket pavilion to become their new base.

They have been given a long lease by the parish council and though it still needs heating, decorating and flooring to be laid, the grand opening took place recently, with more than 100 members and supporters.

Group Scout Leader Vicki Ledger said: “It really showed the potential of the space and we’re really excited thinking about all the great opportunities it will provide for the group and the community.”

More money is still needed to finish the work but fundraising activities have included a raffle and quiz night and a duck race, while grants have been given by a number of businesses and charities.
