THE annual Poppy Appeal has been given a major boost thanks to a large donation from a Rugby supermarket.

Sainsbury’s in Dunchurch Road collected around £8,600 during November’s appeal.

Staff welcomed volunteers into the store to collect donations from shoppers and sell poppies.

Collection tins were also left in the store for customers to contribute.

A cheque for £8,600 was donated to the Royal British Legion last month.

Sainsbury’s thanked all its customers who had donated to the appeal, which is likely to raise around £40 million nationwide this year.
