MORE than a dozen ducklings have hatched at a school in Monks Kirby - to the surprise of children and staff.
Pupils and teachers at the The Revel Primary School in Brockhurst Lane arrived one morning to find that a maternal mallard, who had wandered into the school grounds, had been nesting and produced a brood of 14.
Pupils leapt into action to look after the new family by making them a makeshift pond.
The ducklings have been enjoying their first few days of their life waddling around the playground, while the pupils have been busy in the classroom learning about the great outdoors.
Pupils said their goodbyes to the ducklings on Tuesday before the birds were re-homed at a nearby farm.
