STAFF at Brown & Cockerill in Rugby have been celebrating after the girls’ football team they sponsor finished top of the table.
Rugby Town Girls FC under-tens called into the offices with a couple of older girls to mark their achivement in the Leicester City & County Girls’ League.
Staff said it was a fantastic and well deserved achievement in only their second season.
The players celebrated at an awards ceremony where awards were presented for player’s player, manager’s player, most improved player, goalscorer and goal of the season. Long service medals were also presented as well as a trophy for club volunteer of the year.
Brown & Cockerill, based in Regent Street, is delighted to be team sponsors for the club and is currently instrumental in assisting with the ‘Young People of Rugby’s Development Project’.
This is a programme which will provide children from 14 to 21 with the opportunity, through football, to improve their leadership skills and help in gaining recognised qualifications.
The ultimate aim is to give them the best start in their future careers and to help improve their job prospects.
Rugby Town Girls club chairman and young leader mentor Jason Morris said: “The club could spend up to £500 per person with courses and mentoring.
“Not all young leaders get the chance to go on these courses due to the costs involved, but working with Brown and Cockerill will enable the young people of Rugby get that extra support in gaining qualifications.”
Carl Watts, managing director of Brown & Cockerill, said: “We have always supported the local community in any way we can and it has been particularly rewarding to support the Rugby Town Girls and Juniors over the last season. They have impressed me with their dedication and enthusiasm for the game and felt that they deserved our support.
“It is a pleasure working with Jason and we have agreed that for every property sale completed through Brown and Cockerill by one of Rugby Town’s members’ family, we will donate £200 to the Young People of Rugby’s Development Project.”
