Two arrested after car ends up in canal in Newbold

Police have revealed that two people were arrested in Newbold last night (Wednesday) after a car left the road and landed in a canal.

Thankfully no one was injured in the incident, which happened on Main Street close to the Barley Mow pub just before 10pm.

One of our readers, Keith Gregory, was at the pub with friends and took the above photo after hearing a commotion outside.

Speaking to the Advertiser Keith added that he saw police and two fire crews at the scene and later a crane reportedly arrived to remove the car.

A police spokesperson said: ”Police were called at approximately 9:42pm last night to reports of a single vehicle collision just off Main Street in Newbold.

“The incident involved silver Ford Fiesta which had left the carriageway and came to rest within the canal in Newbold.

“No one was injured.

“A 31-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man from Rugby have both been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and are currently in police custody.”
