An elderly woman has died after being hit by a car in Rugby this morning (Wednesday).

The incident happened at 10.10am on Ratliffe Road but police have yet to release further details.

Police closed the road and an air ambulance was called to the scene where the woman was found to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

A Warwickshire Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that a fatal collision between a person and a vehicle took place at 10.10am.

“We have no further updates at this time.”

An ambulance, paramedic support officer, community paramedic in a rapid response car, BASICS doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Tatenhill in Staffordshire attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived on scene to find a woman in cardiac arrest after being in collision with a car.

“Sadly, despite the best endeavours of medical staff, the pedestrian was confirmed dead at the scene.”
