PARTS of the countryside around Rugby are now underwater following persistent downpours.

The River Avon at Bretford burst its banks yesterday leaving the surrounding fields covered in water.

The Avon between Rugby and Bidford has been placed on flood alert by the Environment Agency which means that it is likely to flood and people should be prepared.

The River Swift between Rugby and Stanford, including Clay Coton and Lilbourne areas, is also on flood alert.

Yesterday Rugby Advertiser reader Jody Kirton posted a You Tube video on our Facebook page which showed cars driving through a ford in Churchover,

However motorists are being warned about the dangers of driving through flood water following the death of a man in Newbury yersterday.
