As summer approaches and nights become longer, Warwickshire Police is warning about the dangers of leaving a drink unattended in public locations.

Officers say leaving your drink unattended can increase the likelihood of your drink being spiked and the possibly of becoming a victim of assault, robbery or rape.

Spiking a drink is a crime even if nothing further takes place.

Police have issues the following advice:

> Never leave your drink unattended; keep it with you at all times. If you do lose sight of you drink, don’t drink from it again. Don’t accept a drink from a stranger unless you see it being served.

> Keep an eye on friends’ drinks and avoid becoming separated.

> Remove yourself from situations you don’t feel comfortable with.

> Make sure you tell someone where you’re going and what time you should be home. Don’t share personal information with somebody you have just met.
