Work starts on the new Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre in Rugby

PREPARATORY work for Rugby’s new leisure centre is underway.

The east side of Whitehall Recreation ground is being turned into a temporary car park, which will be used by leisure centre users while the new centre is being built.

Machinery will remove the grass surface and create a bank to screen neighbouring properties, and a temporary access road and lighting will be installed, together with a safe walking route to the leisure centre.

The trees on this side of the park have been protected by chestnut pale fencing, and the silver birch copse planted in 2008 has also been protected. No trees will be lost as part of the works.

The temporary car park will be removed and the park restored once the new leisure centre has opened and the Ken Marriott Leisure Centre has been demolished.

Updates on the project will be added at www.rugby.gov.uk/newleisurecentre.
