Talented Princethorpe College athlete Adam Shaw took great pride in winning the Inter Boys’ age group of the Warwickshire Combined Events held at Nuneaton’s Pingles stadium.

In tip top condition Shaw showed what good shape he was in by winning four of the eight disciplines. A 6 metre 10 long jump and lightning quick 100 metre hurdles as well as wins in both the javelin and discus set him apart from the competition.

Fellow year 10 Joe Ryan enjoyed a blistering 1500 metres coming second overall. Up and coming year 7 team mate Matthew Rush also proved what an excellent all rounder he is. With an 11 second dead 80 metre sprint and a fine 600 metres the diminutive Rush picked off other athletes to steal a well-deserved overall third place in the Minor Boys.

In the girls events Princethorpe won a trio of bronze medals awarded to Heather Crogan Miksch in the Minor Girls, Ella Bromley in the Junior Girls and Annabelle Pask in the Inter Girls. Heather enjoyed a fine sprint and 600 metres. Ella’s 800 metres blasted away the opposition building on her strong cross country season whilst Annabelle took gold in the shot with a confident 9 metres 43. Other notable achievements came from Mollie Dibb’s determined sixth place in the Minor team and Flora Courtney’s eighth in the highly competitive Inter Girls.

Overall Princethorpe’s Inter girls were the winning County team with Anna Fraser (16th) and Kia Kitching (14th) completing the line up.

Team coach Miss Cockayne was really impressed with Princethorpe’s performance. “The conditions on both days were truly dreadful. with gale force winds and sideways rain.”
