Athletics: schools enter hall of fame

The Eastern Warwickshire School Sport Partnership recently ran three heats of the Level 2 School Games Sportshall Athletics Competition for pupils in years 5 and 6. All three heats were hosted by Harris School and were run with the assistance of Leadership Academy students from Ashlawn School and Bilton School.

The top 2 schools from each heat have progressed through to the Level 2 Final which is to be held shortly. Contesting the final are Bilton Junior School, Boughton Leigh Junior School, Henry Hinde Junior School, Paddox Primary School, The Revel Primary School and Wolston St Margarets Primary School.

The 3 heats were well contested. Paddox were dominant in the first heat, Boughton Leigh and Henry Hinde fought a much tighter 2nd heat with The Revel edging ahead in heat three. Binley Woods and Wolston St Margarets were joint runners up in the third heat but as only six schools could progress to the final, following a tie breaker, the sixth qualifying school was announced as Wolston St Margarets.

Notable performances came from Lola from Bilton,1.84m in the Standing Long Jump and 2m jump by Ryan from Henry Hinde, Andrew from Paddox with a 20m Soft javelin throw and Isabelle from The Revel with a 14m throw.

Congratulations to all the pupils who took part in these heats and good luck to those who are returning for the final. The winner of the final will then progress to represent Eastern Warwickshire in the Level 3 School Games Competition in March.
