Season extended after poor summer weather
Due to the poor weather this summer Barby extended their season by one week and put on a further two games over the weekend of the 22nd September.
On Saturday a strong Barby team took on Ambleside in a re-arranged friendly from earlier in the year.
Barby won the toss and batted first Rob Field 62 and Simon Gear 107 put the Ambleside bowlers to the sword with a centaury opening partnership, with the ball disappearing to all parts. Field departed with the score approaching 150 and Gear continued on to register a fine centaury, before being dismissed when hitting out towards the end of the innings, Barby continued to score quickly and finished with 229-5 of just 40 overs, L Benn 2-35 and O Chaudry 2-39 were the wicket taking bowlers for Ambleside.
In reply Ambleside struggled against some accurate Barby bowling, Dave Knightbridge took two early wickets to finish with 2-7, then the introduction of slow bowling saw the wickets fall at regular intervals with Phil Beagley 3-29 and Rob Stipanovic 2-31 causing much of the damage.
Only a late surge by L Benn 60 and Tilley 23 saw Ambleside to a more score of 145 all out.
The Final game of the season was at home to Badby and the season finished as it started with rain causing the game to be abandoned.
The Club will be putting the ground to bed for the summer and a working party will take place on Saturday 29th September from 10am, Volunteers are welcome.
