The hosts batted first and set a competitive total of 187 for 6 off their 40 overs. Badj Rahman top scored with 45, promising new young recruit Tom Stevenson debuted with a useful 38, before Dave Alcock 25 and another of Willoughby’s promising young products, Hassan Nawaz, chipped in with 20 not out. Shaun Harnett was the pick of the Braunston bowling taking an economical 3 for 16.

In reply, the visitors’ innings was dominated by opener Zane Doe who made a fine 95 not out. As others fell around him, he found support lower down the order from Harnett who made 32, but their efforts were all in vain as the home side’s target proved just too far. Two more of Willoughby’s close season recruits got in on the act with the ball as Frank Claydon took 3 for 24 and Danny Temple returned 1 for 35, and with Marcus Fleming taking 2 for 17 and Alcock finishing with 1 for 24, Willoughby restricted Braunston to 177 for 8 to run out winners by 10 runs.
