3rd XI and Sunday friendly reports
Pak Shaheen 3rd XI v
Oakfield 3rd XI
Oakfield travelled to Nuneaton to play Pak Shaheen and performed admirably with only nine men. Batting first Chris Goodwin (30) and Chris Smith (28) wre the mainstays of Oakfield’s 158 all out. With gaps in the field and a quick outfield defending the total would always be tough and so it proved. Chris Smith made a welcome return to cricket after several weeks out with 2-27 and veteran skipper Bryan Acford picked up a more expensive 3-62 as the hosts won by 5 wickets.
Oakfield v Welford
Oakfield entertained Welford with a young side containing only 1 player over 25. Some of Oakfield’s best prospects were on show and they wanted to make the most of this when electing to bat first. Rob Harris got Oakfield off to a good start with 47 although Oakfield regularly lost wickets as they looked to keep the run rate above a run a ball.
After several cameos, skipper Danny Maddison (55) and Stewart Burnett (51) added 84 for the 7th wicket in 10 overs to help Oakfield to 277 all out in 39 overs.
Welford were soon behind the rate after some tight bowling from Dan Clowes and Perry Wilson in the first 16 overs.
The Welford middle order took the attack to Oakfield through East and Edge (54) before skipper Maddison (2-12) dismissed the latter. Despite Ollie Vaughan’s 2-21 putting the game well out of the visitors reach, East was eyeying up a maiden hundred and achieved this with a ball to spare as the visitors ended on 199-9 from their 40 overs.
