League champions win by 55 runs
WARCL Division 11 East
Newbold 1sts vs Rugby 3rds
Rugby’s third string underlined their status as league champions, beating local rivals Newbold by 55 runs, in a performance that was inspired by Kurran Barhey’s leg spin and all-rounder Adam Milsom.
Rugby were asked to bat first on a damp pitch and were reduced to 21-4, with Darren Wood doing the early damage.
Akram Ullah (14) and captain Hem Mistry (15) did their best to rebuild the innings, but their dismissals left Rugby reeling on 75-6.
However, a 49-run stand between Milsom (47 not out) and Jag Barhey (24) ensured Rugby’s bowlers had something to defend, despite Wood (10-3-11-6) returning to mop up the tail. Rugby’s 131 all out looked in danger as Newbold’s top order attacked early on, but Milsom fought back for Rugby and removed both opening batsmen, including the dangerous Paul Evans (11).
It was then over to the spin twins Kurran Barhey and Sachin Sard who ripped through Newbold’s middle and lower order.
The 15-year-old Barhey showcased his talents with remarkable figures of 7-2-12-5 and bowled one batsman round his legs, the zenith for any leg spinner.
Sard (7-2-10-3) continued his consistent season and Newbold were all out for 76 from 25 overs.
