Summer holiday fun for youngsters
The school summer holidays got off to a great start for cricketing stars of the future at two holiday cricket courses held at Willoughby Cricket Club.
Over 70 boys and girls aged between 5 and 15 have enjoyed two holiday course ‘Cricket Camps’ staged at The Green in the last two weeks, run in conjunction with Twenty20 Cricket Company and managed by local cricket coaches Karl Quinney – also from Willoughby CC, and Wayne Davies from Priors CC.
The two ‘Cricket Camps’ – each held over four days, saw the youngsters put through their paces with a variety of batting, bowling, fielding and catching skills sessions, plus fitness and team games.
Twenty20 style matches were then staged during each afternoon, all rounded off with a series of presentations at the close of the day’s play.
Speaking at the end of the Cricket Camps, Karl said: “It has really been a great couple of weeks with both camps being a lot of fun.
“Everyone has really got involved and played their part; it’s been a real cricket family as it were with some great characters making everyone laugh. Even the weather has been kind to us as well.”
Wayne added: “It has been great to see so many boys and girls keen to play cricket together, and also learn from the coaching on offer and from each other, all with noticeable results.
“What has also really impressed us is not only everyone’s enthusiasm that has attended during the two camps, but also the standard of local young cricketing talent that we have enjoyed working with.
“On the basis of the last two weeks, we can’t wait to come back in 2015.”
