Warwickshire Division 11 East

Newbold 323-4 (24 points)

Willow 78 all out (1 point)

With the potential of rain during the later stage of the match, Newbold won the toss and decided to bat. Bruce Virdee and Captain Tom Dell made a decent start. Virdee playing his usual role of putting pressure on the bowlers whilst Dell was watchful over some early swing.

Once that passed, however, both batsmen tucked into some wayward bowling, with little containment offered.

Post rain and lightning delays, Newbold continued to strike the bowling to the boundaries, quickly passing 150 for the opening partnership before Virdee went after the off-spinner, who bowled him on 77.

Richard Meacham came to the crease and continued in the same vein. He quickly reached his half century before Dell reached an emotional maiden hundred. Dell was eventually caught on 115 and later Meacham slapped one to the only fielder on the offside on 88, Newbold declaring on 323-4. With the rain delays Newbold had 38 overs to bowl Willow out and quickly set to work with Moneeb Razaq and Paul Higham both taking early wickets. With the wealth of the bowling attack on offer, the bowlers rotated, with Cheney and Dell taking wickets cheaply before Rob Bellamy taking 2 wickets in 2 balls in his second over to wrap up the game.

Willow took 1 point from the game, with a full 24 points for Newbold, who host Highway Spartans next looking to make it two wins in two and start climbing back up the table.
