Through to next round of County and League cups

September and October have seen the Rugby Town Ladies make the best start to a season in recent years with over 40 goals already scored. The Ladies are sitting third in the Birmingham County Premier League with a game in hand, having won four of their opening five league games as well as two wins taking them into the second round of both cups.

Last weekend the Ladies took on Knowle, a side that play two leagues above, in the first round of the County Cup. Having gone down 4-0 in the first 20 minutes, the score line was looking bleak.

However, the Ladies grew into the game and came out as a completely different side in the second half. The ladies were the first to score through Emma Atkinson for 4-1. Knowle reacted with a quick goal making 5-1. However, Rugby Town did not give up and through some excellent team play slowly fought back and did the impossible in the last 30 minutes of the game equalising with only minutes to go. The game went to penalties and Rugby Town came out the victorious side.

Player of the match went to Emma Atkinson for five excellent goals, and to Leah Morris for superb saves in goal.

This weekend, the Ladies played in the League Cup against a young Coventry City Development side, winning comfortably and going straight through to the second round. Player of the match went to Becky Clusker for her leadership and play from the back.
