The weekend’s matches from under 8s to seniors

A W Engraving Coventry Alliance League – Premier Division

Brinklow 2 Woodlands 3: Battling Brinklow side were edged out of a close fought encounter with league high-flyers, Woodlands. The first half saw both teams evenly matched with neither keeper being called upon to make a save. Harry Donovan fired Woodlands into the lead four minutes after the break. Brinklow equalised on 54 minutes after the visiting keeper could only parry a Ben Clarke cross to the onrushing Ash Marks who headed home.

Matt Brisco restored Woodlands lead on 75 minutes sending a looping shot from the right corner of the penalty area high into the net’s top left corner. Brinklow fell further behind on 81 minutes when Carlo Welland hit a 25-yard thunderbolt which hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced into the net. Andy Gordon completed the scoring with three minutes to go, converting a penalty after he was upended in the penalty area.

U8s: Saturday saw Brinklow entertain Rugby Town Eagles in a seven-a-side friendly in preparation for next season. On a bigger pitch the boys produced some fantastic fast flowing football but found Eagles’ keeper in fine form.

The midfield of Jacob Smith, Noah Ward and Cameron James worked tirelessly, providing a shield for Calvin Coates and Mason King in defence that Rugby just could not break down. Cameron scored after a great through ball, keeping his nerve to chip the on-rushing keeper.

Rugby came back hard but Logan Cooper was on hand to ‘save’ the day. Aaryan Dassaur and Toby Edwards were causing problems in attack, with the latter playing in every position and scoring two fantastic goals to seal the game. Man of the match was split between the two scorers Cameron and Toby. An awesome performance from every one of the boys.
