WERE you playing for Hillmorton Juniors in 1984? A special fundraising reunion game is being arranged and organiser Ian Smith is trying to track down former players.

Ian used to play for Daventry United, where Alan Haynes coached the junior team in the 1980s. Since he died a few years ago, members of that team, now in their mid 40s have commorated the important part he played in their lives by getting together each year to play a friendly veterans match in his honour.

“This year I’m trying to recreate the 1984 Linnett Cup final between Daventry and Hillmorton and in the process raise funds for the Rugby Legacy centre project at Kilsby Lane, so that more people can benefit from the dedication of volunteers like Alan and get involved with a sports club.

“Rugby Town Juniors FC have kindly offered to host the match at Kilsby Lane. It will kick off at 2pm on Saturday, December 15 and all spectators are welcome.”

Paul Hollins at Hillmorton Juniors is putting together the Hillmorton veterans side, hopefully to include some of the 1984 players who were: Sap Devgun, Derek Warren, Mick Platt, Paul White, Graham Sprayson, Peter Swingler, Dave Patterson, Martin McNevin, Neil Bird, Jason Martin, Mark Taplin and Richard Beresford.

If any of those named would like to join the Alan Haynes tribute reunion game, please call Ian on 07946 481914 or email theiansmith@gmail.com
