Rugby Town Under 11 Pumas (Sponsored by Ball Packaging Ltd): v Weddington Sports – League (away): The final league game of the season, before the Spring Trophy event, gave the Pumas a chance to complete an amazing 100% win record for league games this season. They didn’t disappoint.

After an even first 15 minutes the scoring started when John’s dangerous corner deflected off a defender and went in. This suddenly gave the upper hand to Rugby who scored a further three goals before half time.

Dylan flicked on for Léo R and a bit of skill saw him clip the ball over the keeper for the second. Rugby’s next corner was cleared as far as Leo C and his excellent first time pass found Sterling in space who finished well into the bottom corner. A great fourth followed on the stroke of half time when John won the ball back and put a reverse pass into Dylan. He held the ball up well and laid it into the path of Yaqub who drilled home, an excellent sweeping move and a contender for ‘goal of the season’! A dominant first half with notable contributions from Shay and Josh also played his part. Joe in goal had only one real save to make which he did well.

The Pumas started the second half a bit sluggish and took the lead for granted. This gave Weddington some hope and they duly obliged with a couple of goals on the break. But Pumas remained calm as a few chances went begging. Gabriel put Dylan in with a great pass but the keeper did well.

Léo R then broke away and put Sterling through on goal, who smashed home from distance, another great goal. The final goal came through some composed play. Leo C, Charlie and Shay combined well when playing out from the back. Manager’s Star Man Yaqub found Jamie who whipped in a dangerous cross that was deflected home by an unlucky defender.

A great performance from all and a good reaction from the boys when Weddington threatened early in the second half.

So that’s 13 league games played, 13 won, all in the top group.

Let’s see if we can cap it off with a Spring Trophy win which starts next week.
