Richard Gregory put Rugby ahead in the 28th minute and in the second half Justin Marsden made it 2-0 and Lewis Rankin finished off a wonderful afternoon with a goal in the 79th minute.

Kettering were in need of a point to be sure of the title, but with second placed Aylesbury drawing 0-0 with Aylesbury United, leaving them 11 points behind with only three games to play, the champions could celebrate.

Coupled with Saturday’s 2-1 win over Northwood, Rugby’s six points over Easter lift them into fourth spot in the table, with 73 points. Aylesbury and Royston above them have 77 and Barton Rovers and Bedworth United below them are on 72. Bedworth still have a game in hand.

This Saturday Rugby are away to AFC Hayes, followed by Daventry away on April 18 and Royston at home on April 25.
