Dave Stringer’s pre-season preparations at Rugby Town took a blow last week when influential midfielder Paddy Connolly was ruled out of the start of the forthcoming Southern League campaign.

Connolly will be out of action for at least six weeks after keyhole surgery on his knee, and his absence comes a week after another first choice man Claudiu Hoban decided to jump ship to join Daventry Town.

The 27-year-old midfielder scooped two player of the year awards in 2010-11, including the then-manager Martin Sockett’s nomination, and Stringer replaced him in the opening line-up for last Friday’s friendly against Chasetown with Craig Civzelis.
