Valley ahead 5-3 going into second leg with Kettering

Rugby Town go into tomorrow’s (Tuesday) second leg of the Newlands Shield at Butlin Road with a two-goal advantage over Kettering.

Saturday’s eight-goal friendly cup thriller at Latimer Park saw Rugby win 5-3.

Valley captain Andy Gooding scored first from the penalty spot, before their hosts equalised with Richard Lavery heading home the next to regain the lead just before half time.

The Poppies levelled again, but Jason Lee and Jake Woolley scored in quick succession for 4-2. Kettering replied again but David Kolodynski had the final word for Rugby.
