Egham Town on Saturday, Barton Rovers on Tuesday

Rugby Town’s focus returns to the Southern League once more over the next week, with trips to two of the teams just above them in its Central Division.

Valley have amassed just three wins in nine league starts this season so far, with the 6-1 thrashing of Hanwell their only success on the road in five attempts.

They will therefore be looking to enhance both these totals when they visit Egham Town on Saturday, before heading for Barton Rovers next Tuesday (7th).

These two games come on the back of a week of mixed fortunes in cup competitions, with the 3-1 Worcester City defeat in the F.A.Cup followed by a 4-2 victory in the Birmingham Senior Cup against a side from Football League Two Burton Albion.

Whilst Town put in a decent shift at Aggborough at the weekend, the Conference North side ultimately had too much class for them – meaning an exit from the competition for the second successive year against City.

Rugby faced Egham for the first ever time last season, registering a draw and a win from the two games.

A late own goal salvaged Valley a point from the corresponding fixture at the Runnymede Stadium last December, with Greg Kaziboni, David Kolodynski and Justin Marsden on target in the reverse 3-1 victory at Butlin Road.

The Sarnies have a symmetrically perfect five win/five defeat return in the league to-date, leaving them in eighth in table – five places ahead of Dave Stringer’s men.

Barton are currently two spots higher than Town in 2014/15, having just missed out on the play-offs last time out with their sixth place finish.

Rugby and Rovers have faced each other in each of Valley’s four years back in the second level of the Southern League, and having played out draws in the first four games, Town have then gone on to register four consecutive victories – including 4-1 and 2-0 successes in the 2013/14 campaign.

# James Jepson looks likely to leave Butlin Road, after his old club Kettering put in seven days notice for the midfielder. Jepson signed for Town in the summer, having featured for the Poppies last season – but has struggled to recapture the form he showed for the Northamptonshire side.

# The coach to Egham will leave the clubhouse at 11am, and the Barton one at 5.15pm. For latest information, contact Tony Mann on 07970 691366.
