Three points clear at the top

Rugby Town missed out on the chance to restore a five point differential between them and second placed Dunstable on Tuesday evening after their draw with Aylesbury United.

The gap between the two sides had widened to this at the weekend following Town’s comfortable 4-0 weekend victory over Leighton alongside a fourth consecutive defeat for Dunstable at Slough.

However the Bedfordshire club finally returned to winning ways at Beaconsfield on Monday to reduce the arrears to two points again, which Valley then extended to three following their 1-1 Tuesday return.

Everything is therefore building nicely for the top of the table clash a week Saturday (8th March) when Dunstable visit Butlin Road, but first Rugby must deal with a trip to Uxbridge this weekend – whilst Dunstable host play-off chasing Barton.

Saturday’s opponents Uxbridge are up to 15th in the Calor League Central Division following their 4-0 victory at bottom side Ashford last Saturday, although this was their first victory in six league outings.

Valley came from behind to record a 3-1 success over the Middlesex side in the reverse fixture back in November, and will be looking to complete their fourth double of the current campaign at the Honeycroft Stadium on Saturday.

Defender Nathan Haines will again be missing, as he serves the final game of his three-match suspension, and Jared Cunniff is a doubt due to the ankle injury he suffered against Leighton.

However top scorer David Kolodynski is hoping to be back from a holiday in the USA in time for the game, and Town boss David Stringer has also added Luke Connolly and Lyle Orange to his squad over the past week.

21 year-old Connolly started the Aylesbury game at centre-half after signing from Leamington, having previously featured at Solihull Moors and Redditch following his release from the West Brom academy, whilst Orange – who came off the bench against Leighton - is a product of the Barnet youth system.
