Valley beat Chalfont St Peter 2-1

Two goals from Richard Gregory maintained Rugby Town’s grip on a play-off place in Evostik Central Division One.

He put Town ahead just before half time at Butlin Road on Saturday and made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute. But 13th-placed Chalfont made it a nervy finish, scoring in the 83rd.

Rugby (62 points from 32 games) are still 11 points behind leaders Kettering (73 points, 31 games), and six behind Bedworth (68 from 32 games) but have opened up a two-point gap over fourth-placed Aylesbury (60 points, 31 games).

Behind them Royston are in fifth with 56 points from 32 games, but sixth and seventh teams Hanwell and Barton have two games in hand with 55 and 52 points respectively after 30 games.
