WERE you a member of the original Bilton Ajax junior football team from 1972?
The club is hoping to reunite the side as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations this year.
The club was formed with ten-year-olds from the 7th Gemini Cubs pack at Bilton and first joined the Rugby & District League as under 12s in 1973-74. They shared the title with Long Buckby that year and went on to be an incredibly successful side, losing only five matches up until they were 16-year-olds.
President Lyn Redding explained: “The cubs used to play half a morning of football and half cricket at the end of the season. We were having a lemonade break one day and they asked if they could keep the football team going.
“I said yes, if they could find some friends and the next week 33 lads turned up!
“They chose the name because Ajax in Amsterdam and Johan Cruyff was popular at that time.
“That team are scattered around the world now and some we have just lost touch with, but it would be good to get everyone back together for the 40th celebrations.”
