Hillmorton U10s reigned supreme at Long Buckby for the second time in succession with the Colts lifting the Plate and the Juniors lifting the Cup.
Hillmorton Colts started the tournament brightly in their first game, but were unfortunate to lose 1-0 due to an own goal.
The Colts went on to draw against West Haddon 0-0 and lose to Hillmorton juniors 1-0 which was a thrilling contest.
The colts bagged their first win against Long Buckby Bucks 2-0, with goals coming from a long-range effort from Adam Hewitt and Adam Crosby Smith, who turned the defenders inside out and buried the ball in the net.
The Colts’ last league game was a defeat to Long Buckby Stags 1-0 so the Colts went on to the plate final. Hillmorton colts once again faced Long Buckby Bucks in the plate final. The Colts got of to a slow start going 1-0 down which seemed to wake them up as the colts put constant pressure on Long Buckby until Edward Graham had a one on one with the keeper and placed it into the bottom corner.
The second half was all in the colts control with shots from Jack tew Adam Crosby Smith and Edward Graham all going wide full time 1-1.
The game went to a one half extra time which still couldn’t determine the winner until it went to penalties, where the Colts won 3-1. Each team took four penalties with Jack Tew, Adam Crosby Smth and Oskar Skuza scoring and Adam Hewitt hitiing the post.
The Bucks shot wide and scored the second one, then Oskar Skuza made two cracking saves to win the Colts the Plate. A very rewarding day for the Colts, Oskar skuza being Petr Cech in goal, Chris Dale Harry Kirkbride and Adam Hewiit solid at the back Jack Tew and Adam Crosby Smith dominating the midfileld and Edawrd Graham battling his way up front.
Player of the tournament: Adam Hewitt, never stopped working all day.
Hillmorton Juniors where not at the races in the first two games drawing to West Haddon and Long Buckby Bucks 0-0.
In the game aginst the Colts it was very even until a well-finished goal by Aston Clarke.
After a long wait and some stern words Hillmorton Juniors stepped up a level with a 3-1 victory over Delapre Saints with Eliot Greatrex smashing high into the roof of the net, James Evans finishing coolly in the corner and Taylor Hall converting a cross. Delapre got one back near the end but it was to late.
Hillmorton’s final game was against Long Buckby Stags. After a poor start the Juniors went 1-0 down, which seemed to wake them up when Eliot Greatrex but in a good through ball which Taylor Hall converted sweetly. Then, in the last couple of minutes the Buckby keeper made a tactical error and James Evans’ quick reaction paid off when he blasted it into the net to give Hillmorton juniors a 2-1 win and finish top of the group.
The semi-finals kicked of with Hillmorton against West Haddon. Hillmorton went 1-0 up when Taylor Hall placed it pass the Haddon kepper then West Haddon equilised from a corner.
In the second half Hillmorton sealed the win when James Evans scored. Hillmorton once again faced Long buckby Stags in the final. Within two minutes Long Buckby took the lead after a defensive error which drove Hillmorton to try and get a quick equiliser. HT 1-0.
The second Half was more in Hillmorton’s control with the Juniors passing more and creating chances until finally near the end Eliot Greatrex smashed home the equiliser to send the game to extra time. The tournament was sealed with a goal worthy of a champion team when Eliot Greatrex took a powerful strike from the half way line which flew into the top corner and Hillmorton Juniors once again lifted the trophy.
Well done to the Juniors on this rewarding day, Josh king operating his box and commanding the goal, Jessica Hollins, Jake Padfield and Eliot Greatrex controlling the back, Anthony Childs and Aston Clarke battling through midfield and Taylor Hall and James Evans working there skins off up front.
