Avon Valley pupil Connor Hannifin has fought his way into the semi-finals of the national ABA schoolboy championships.
At Everton Park sports centre, Liverpool at the weekend he won his quarter-final bout at 46kg.
Boxing Ryan Tennant from Ward Dagenhams ABC, County Durham, Connor was representing the Midlands against Merseyside & Cheshire/ Tyne Tees and Wear.
The Rugby lad got off to a good start, landing some nice straight shots and good combinations to the body and head.
He was boxing on his front foot and moving around the ring well, keeping his opponent on the back foot.
The second round saw some more excellent boxing from Connor and his strength proved too much for the Dunham fighter.
A left hook to the body weakened his opponent’s defence and in the third round Connor knew the fight was his.
He didn’t give his opponent a chance, showing his ring-craft and catching him with clean accurate shots.
In the end Connor was victorious with a unanimous decision, winning all three rounds from all three judges.
Connor is very appreciative of everyone who travelled to support him and sponsor Let’s Get Car Hire of Woodside Park for providing transport to the venue.
The youngsters, who trains with the Kingsheath boxing club in Northampton, is now looking forward to his semi-final contest in Wakefield next weekend and then bringing the title back to Rugby.
Last month Connor began his campaign by winning the East Midlands title against Omar Uzman from Leicester.
