ANGLING: By Simon Green

Ice and snow claim most of the action
The Braunston Thursday Club visited Stockton Reservoir last week.
An overnight frost made for a slow start and no carp were caught on the day.
Top weight went to Brian Hodgetts with a fine net of Roach to a pound plus a few crucians tipping the scales to 26lb 4oz, taken on Caster.
Second was Mick Wilson who also had a mainly roach based net of 9lb 6oz on Maggot ahead of third placed Braunston Bagger Alan Brightman with 5lb 14oz, again made up of Roach.
Dog Lane Fishery, Napton Willow Lake Open results: This week’s open attendance plummeted with the temperatures, from 20 anglers booked in by Wednesday to 11 anglers attending on Sunday.
Those that did fish were greeted by ice on some pegs which eventually cleared around 2pm.
The fishing was hard with only Paul Knapman showing everyone how it should be done. Paul fished peg 15 into open water with a small method feeder and alternated between pop up baits.
His five fish were good enough for a lake win, with 19lb 3oz weighed in.
Some 13lb behind was Ian Morris on peg 12 who weighed in 6lb 8oz of small carp to finish second best weight.
Third place was Phil Porter on peg 5 who found a mix bag of fish for 4lb 5oz. The one other notable fish came from peg 35 where Pete Sharpe weighed in a 2lb+ perch.
All in all it was a hard day’s fishing but it was bizzarely enjoyable, the best bite for some was the good breakfast served at the Kings Head pub.
Next open will be in two weeks time on January 27. Weather and numbers permitting the draw will be at the Kings Head pub, Napton at 9am, monies in by 8.45am. £15 all in.
