BASKETBALL: Trabliks too strong for Trojans

Rugby Rage returned to league action after an amazing cup run just before the holiday breaks.

Their run of good form continued as they easily beat Coventry based Tile Hill Trojans 2. Early on it was evident that Rugby had the upper hand as Marcin Marchlewicz (14 points) & Guntars Trabliks (18) controlled the front court on both offense and defence.

With a strong presence inside the Rage guards we free to break at will to score some easy fast break points led by Jose Vega (8) & Didzis Grunzdins. After the half with Rage winning 29-22 Trojans snuck back into contention as Rugby eased off the pressure and closing the gap to just five points. With the Trojan team flying high, player coach Gurjit Rupal (10) made a brief cameo appearance and soon fired up the offence once more. With the momentum now back with Rugby Rage the ever reliable Kurtis Johnson (10), Samir Abluhawa (2) & Jay Stovell (2) made sure that Rage were once again on top going into the last quarter with a 7 point lead.

With the match still closer than Rugby would have liked it was a mix of experience and youth that finally put Trojans out of the competition. Raj Kang (0) used his entire 6’4” frame to secure a number of rebounds and make a number of block shots whilst Jay Patel (2) & Kamil Rzeszutek (2) ran rampant on the way to yet another Rugby Rage win.

Final score was Rage 71 – 55 Trojans 2, with Guntars Trabliks once again winning man of the match.
