RUNNING: New beginners’ running course for ladies

Here’s a great chance to make a healthy start to 2013. A new 16-week ladies’ beginners’ running course gets going on Saturday, February 2 at Rugby’s athletics track, 9.30-10.30am.

Established four years ago, the Ladies Running Group now has more than 150 regular members, catering for women of all ages and abilities, shapes and sizes, complete novices to intermediate runners. 2012 saw members complete events over 5K, 10K, 10 miles, half marathons and seven ladies completed their first marathon.

Whether you are looking to compete in your first 5k or dream of running a marathon, the group will provide you with coach-led sessions and specific training plan to meet your ongoing individual needs.

Your personal goal may be to get fit, lose weight, relieve work pressure, escape from the kids for an hour or meet new people.

Training takes place at the track next to Ken Marriott Leisure Centre and the sessions are a mixture of track based training and calculated distance runs, building up gradually and culminating in participating in the Rugby Ready Steady Fun Run (5k).

Included in the £25 price (16 week course) are two optional mid-week sessions at 6.30pm on a Tuesday and Thursday evening in addition to the main session. All sessions are with qualified and experienced female coaches.

Fun, friendship and a shared commitment to supporting each other to achieve personal goals is an integral part of the group.

Here are some comments from existing members:

“After week 1 I was hooked and less than 12 months later I have completed a 10K race. I’m so chuffed with myself; wish I’d done it before I was in my 50’s !!”

“When I joined running 5K seemed like a marathon. Two years later the group has helped me to run a marathon ………. Thank you “

“Have fun learning to run – it will be the best decision you make this year”
